The Signia Hotel curates and presents local Atlanta art for everyone – WABE

At Signia by Hilton Atlanta, one of the city’s largest new hotel projects, the creativity of our community is on display on every wall. The hotel designed its public space as a gallery, focusing on the art of local artists as well as national and international artists with strong ties to the region.

“The Art of Signia” is a permanent exhibition that is open to both casual visitors and guests.

Putting together the collection began in 2018, when plans for the hotel were finalized and a team of designers, architects, the Hilton team and the Georgia World Congress Center came together to select artwork from across the Southeast, says Sally Faulkner, principal of Faulkner + Locke, the design firm that brought the collection to life.

Faulkner recently met with “City Lights” host Lois Reitzes to discuss the development.

To complete the collection, the Signia team commissioned several works of art, including a gigantic installation on the roof of the lobby created by Tristan Al Haddad, professor of architecture at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

According to Faulkner, the work is “based on the shape of a crape myrtle tree… its branches go outward, then come back together and hang directly overhead” as you enter the lobby. The Signia Collection includes over 70 original works of art in the hotel’s public areas and includes works by about 40 artists from Atlanta and throughout the Southeast.

“We really wanted to highlight all the different mediums,” says Faulkner, including basketry, ceramics, painting, textiles and more. For more information on the Signia Hotel and the collection, click here.
