Illustrations are one of the closest things to magic. The process of seeing a drawing come to life is one of the purest forms of creation we can experience. And when that combines with the wonder of Disney and its heroines, it’s truly awe-inspiring. And so it’s our great honor to reveal some exclusive process artwork from the new Ravensburger game. Chronicles of the Light: Darkness Falls (Disney Edition)These six artworks tell a wonderful story as they evolve from idea to final form, documenting the journey of how the cover for Chronicles of Light came to fruition. The crystal forms of Maid Marian, Belle, Moana and Violet from Disney and Pixar’s game are featured here. We really can’t stop looking at them and, incredibly, their story is even more powerful than the beauty of these drawings.

Alex Land from Ravensburger, Art Director for Chronicles of the Light: Darkness Falls (Disney Edition)shared more Nerd about the reasoning behind the crystallized forms of the heroines in this game. She revealed, “The team decided on the visuals early on, taking inspiration from jewelry and crystal-cut figures, both of which are beautiful and feminine, like the heroines in the game. The angular cuts in the jewelry add sturdiness to the design and also allow light to reflect through the prisms. Bringing light and strength when things get dark are heroic traits you’ll see in the characters in the game.”

We love this justification for the crystal theme for the heroines in Chronicles of the Light: Darkness Falls (Disney Edition). The idea that crystals exist as something beautiful but also strong is incredibly striking. Like the heroines themselves, crystals are full of light and beautiful, but that cannot be separated from the fact that they are also hard and angular. This crystallization in the art of Disney heroines in Chronicles of Light really reinforces what we already know about them; they’re friendly and magical, but we wouldn’t want to get in their way in battle. This beautiful, subtle but effective addition to the artistic design of the Disney heroines really lets them shine. And it sets us up for what we’ll learn as we play the game.

Land concludes: “This game is about female characters being put in the role of heroines that you want young girls to emulate. They are not pushed into passive roles; they are taking the lead, helping other people, and working together to support each other. You can get into that mindset when you play.” And everything from the art to the story brings that idea to life in Chronicles of Light.
