Pedro Almodóvar’s English-language debut with Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton – critics of Punch Drunk

Pedro Almodóvar is one of the greatest filmmakers in the world and every time he has a new project, it is likely to be showered with a lot of praise, like his last film Parallel mothers did. He is also one of the few international filmmakers who is as respected here as he is around the world. But can you believe he has never made an English-language film? Well, that changes with The room next doorwhich will open this holiday season.

As can be seen in the new teaser, The room next door Tilda Swinton and Julianne Moore play two women who were best friends when they were young. But today they are adults and lead completely different lives. Circumstances have brought them back together.

Almodóvar directed and wrote the screenplay. The story focuses on the lives of women, a recurring theme throughout his career.

The cast also includes John Turturro, Alessandro Nivola, Juan Diego Botto, Raúl Arévalo, Victoria Luengo, Alex Hogh Andersen, Esther McGregor, Alvise Rigo and Melina Matthews.

Sony Pictures Classics releases The room next door on December 20th.

SUMMARY: Ingrid (Julianne Moore) and Martha (Tilda Swinton) were close friends in their youth when they worked together for the same magazine. Ingrid later became an autofiction writer, while Martha became a war reporter. Life circumstances separated them. After years without contact, they meet again in an extreme but strangely sweet situation.
