Teaser for “The Room Next Door”: Pedro Almodóvar’s English-language debut

Here’s your first look at Pedro Almodóvar’s English-language debut The room next door.

Sony Picture Classics released the first teaser this morning. The film, starring Julianne Moore and Tilda Swinton, is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival this month before premiering in the US at the New York Film Festival.

The room next door follows Ingrid (Moore), a bestselling author who rekindles a relationship with her friend Martha, a war journalist played by Swinton. The two women delve into their past, but Martha has a request that tests their newfound bond. Also starring: John Turturro, Alessandro Nivola and Juan Diego Botto.

The film addresses the infinite cruelty of war and the two authors’ very different approaches to reality and death, friendship and sexual desire as the best allies in the fight against horror.

The further description states that the film “conjures up the sweet awakening of birdsong in a house in the middle of a New England nature reserve, where the two friends live in an extreme and strangely sweet situation.”

Warner Bros Pictures has The room next door for release in a number of key international markets, including the filmmaker’s home country of Spain. The studio also has a presence in the UK, Germany, Italy, the Nordic countries, Central and Eastern Europe (excluding Poland), Latin America and parts of the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan.

Produced by Almodóvar’s El Deseo, The room next door was shot between Madrid and New York, with Movistar Plus+. The film is Almodóvar’s first feature-length project since 2021 Parallel motherswhich premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where Penelope Cruz won the Volpi Cup for Best Actress for her role in the film.
