A Ugandan national aroused suspicion by refusing food and water on board a Delhi-bound flight. He confessed to his crime shortly after landing and was arrested nine days later.

A foreign national of Ugandan origin was arrested at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on drug smuggling charges after he aroused suspicion by refusing to eat or drink water on board a flight from Sharjah. He was arrested after nine days of interrogation.

Flight G9-463 took off from Sharjah at around 23:15. After takeoff, the stewardess started distributing food to the passengers as usual. However, this passenger refused to accept food. This made the stewardess suspicious.

When the air hostess offered water to the passenger, he refused. The air hostess did not like the passenger’s gesture and sensed that something was wrong. The air hostess immediately informed the captain of the aircraft about him and the captain in turn informed the Air Traffic Control (ATC) at the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport.

When air traffic control received this information, they shared it with the Customs Prevention Team. When the flight landed in Delhi at around 4:30 am, the passenger was taken into custody, who during interrogation admitted to inhaling drug capsules.

The accused was then admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi. Under medical supervision, around 13 medicine capsules were removed from his stomach.

On examination of the capsules, 357 grams of cocaine worth Rs 5.36 crore were found. It took the customs officials and doctors of Safdarjung Hospital about nine days to find these capsules.
