A teenage fan had to endure a slow ride to a Taylor Swift concert after dressing up for the occasion.

Ellen Siegert, 19, from Hopton, Norfolk, created her own version of a long red, white and blue dress worn by Swift, using two bedsheets.

It took her three hours to cover the 17-mile journey from her hotel to Wembley Stadium, navigating the escalators of the London Underground and surrounded by excited like-minded people.

“The dress caused a lot of attention,” said Steve, Mrs Siegert’s father. “It certainly wasn’t a quick trip!”

Ms Siegert, a fan for 10 years, saw Swift – who was joined on stage by Ed Sheeran – for the first time on Thursday with her father, mother Jane and a friend.

They stayed in a hotel in Stratford, east London, and took the subway to Wembley.

Mr Siegert said they left at around 2.30pm (BST) and arrived at around 5.30pm.

He said the walk from Wembley tube station to the stadium took two hours because so many people stopped to admire his daughter’s dress.

“We had to walk through a mall and then go to the subway in Stratford,” he said.

“Ellen had to lift the dress as she went down the escalator.

“After getting off the tube at Wembley, it must have taken two hours to walk up Olympic Way.

“Everyone stopped to admire the dress or take photos.

“Her photo appeared in the media worldwide.”

Ms Siegert told BBC Radio Norfolk: “The walk from our hotel to the tube station was a humiliating experience.”

“I was really worried that getting on the subway was going to be a real problem.

“But luckily I was able to throw the skirt over my shoulder – the big skirt at the back.

“It wasn’t that bad, I was never annoyed about it.”

She said she “absolutely loved” the walk along Olympic Way and described the performance by Swift and Sheeran – who was born in Halifax, West Yorkshire, and grew up in Framlingham, Suffolk – as “insanely incredible”.

The teenager, who was diagnosed with ME (myalgic encephalomyelitis), runs her own crochet business.

She said she started crocheting five years ago because it was a “therapeutic way” to keep her mind busy, especially when she was exhausted.

She has created hundreds of crocheted miniature figures, including musicians and television stars.

Her father said she was “busy making little Taylor and Ed Sheeran dolls at the moment.”
