The free transport service will also be open out of season

On August 15, the Big Sky Transportation District unanimously approved an extension of the hours of its free transportation service, Big Sky Connect. Mandi Dibble, BSC director of operations, hopes the decision will support the local economy and quality of life and meet demand for rides.
The rest area, located between the Conoco gas station at the corner of Montana Highway 64 (Lone Mountain Trail) and US Highway 191 to Ousel Falls and Lone Mountain Ranch, is open daily from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. The rest area, which includes the Big Sky Town Center, was previously open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. during the off-season from September 18 to November 24.
BSC has a wider service area that extends throughout Mountain Village and between Conoco and Riverhouse BBQ & Events. The expanded service is offered Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Riders must request rides by calling the dispatch area phone number (406-898-4438).
“We did it to stimulate the economy as more and more businesses are opening in the evenings,” Dibble said.
She said the change also allows for more full-time drivers to work year-round, as the previous 10.5-hour shifts were difficult to fill. The new 14-hour days allow employees to work regular shift times.
Demand for off-season BSC rides has only increased over the past year, with ridership this spring up 72% compared to the fall off-season of 2023. Ridership this fall is expected to increase 50% compared to last fall’s numbers, but Dibble said that’s a conservative prediction.
Passengers can find information about Big Sky Connect on the Skyline website. Skyline also offers bus service through Gallatin Canyon and the Link through Big Sky.
