John Legend and the Cleveland Orchestra’s concert at Blossom Music Center on Thursday night was canceled in the middle of the show due to a storm.

Legend had already played with the orchestra when the venue suspended the concert due to impending thunderstorms. At around 7:45 p.m., fans with pavilion seats were asked to remain under cover, while fans with grass seats were instructed to seek shelter in their vehicles or a nearby restroom.

After trying to wait for the storm to pass, the concert was canceled around 9:30 p.m.

After the cancellation, Legend posted a statement on his Instagram story saying that he and the other cast members had been waiting backstage to see if the show could continue.

“We were just informed that we cannot continue the show tonight,” Legend said in a video accompanying his story. “I am so sorry. I wanted to finish the show tonight. I have a lot of family and friends here and I wanted to put on a great show for the good people of Northern Ohio and I am so sorry. We will find a way to make it up to you as soon as possible.”

The venue said it is working on rescheduling the show.

Power at the venue kept going out as heavy rains hit the area and people tried to wait out the storm. Some concertgoers left the venue while the show was on hiatus and reported flooding on nearby roads, such as the Portage Trail.

At 9:15 p.m., shortly before the concert was canceled, a flash flood warning was issued for the region.

The concert was supposed to start at 7 p.m., but started about 20 minutes late. For the last song, Legend played a cover of “Ribbon in the Sky” by Stevie Wonder.
