United Way of the Virginia Peninsula appoints new CEO

Charvalla West, Executive Director (United Way of the Virginia Peninsula)

YORKTOWN – United Way of the Virginia Peninsula announced Thursday the appointment of Charvalla West as chief executive officer.

West brings more than nine years of experience with United Way locally and previously served as chief operating officer, the organization said.

Skip Smith, Board Chair, said, “On behalf of the Board, we are excited about the future of United Way of the Virginia Peninsula. Charvalla’s passion for our mission, her desire to support our partner agencies and bring our community together make her the right person for this role. She has the full support of the Board and so many others in this community. We know she is the right person at the right time to grow United Way and do more for those in need.”

West has served as COO and Director of Community Impact at United Way of the Virginia Peninsula since 2020, where she “demonstrated her ability to mobilize people and resources that support collaborative solutions and strengthen the nonprofit sector,” according to the organization.

“I believe in what United Way stands for in our community – a connector. We hope that everyone, whether they need something or want to donate, will turn to United Way to connect. We have a vision and a clear path to raise more money for our partner agencies and help more people in need. With the support of our community, we are able to do this.”
