Delta College announces the death of longtime employee and trustee Valerie Stewart-Green Stockton News

Delta College is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Trustee Valerie Stewart-Green, who served the College for nearly three decades, first as an employee and then as a trustee.

Stewart-Green has lived in Tracy for about 28 years and worked at Delta College for 22 years until her retirement in 2022.

In October of that year, she was appointed to the Board of Trustees, where she represented the Tracy and Mountain House communities for nearly two years.

Having worked closely with the community during her time as executive assistant to the superintendent/president of Delta College, Stewart-Green often spoke as a trustee of her desire to ensure that all community members are informed about the college’s programs and services and how those programs and services can improve their lives.

“I want to make sure our students have the best educational opportunities and are successful and that we do the best for the community,” she said when she was first appointed to the board.

In addition to being a long-time resident of Tracy, Stewart-Green also holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of San Francisco.

“I had the pleasure of working with Valerie at Delta in her roles as a staff member and as a trustee,” said Dr. Lisa Aguilera Lawrenson, Superintendent/President of Delta College. “She was a passionate supporter of students, especially students from underserved communities. She wanted all students to have access to the opportunities the college offers. She also wanted to ensure that staff had the support they needed to fulfill the college’s mission. She will be greatly missed by the campus community, and I am grateful for the dedication with which she served the district. I extend my deepest condolences to her loved ones.”

“I have greatly appreciated the opportunity to know and work with Valerie over the past nearly 25 years,” said Board of Trustees President Dr. Charles Jennings. “Her commitment to the mission of the college was always paramount in her service to the college. Since her retirement, she has never failed to be there when her community needed her and has continued to work tirelessly as a trustee on its behalf. I will miss Valerie and the many conversations we had about how to best meet the needs of everyone in our diverse community. My deepest condolences go out to Valerie’s entire family.”
