Lufthansa Cargo expands fleet by 18 Boeing 777F

DALLAS — Lufthansa Cargo (LH) recently added an 18th Boeing 777 freighter to its fleet as part of its ongoing efforts to modernise and increase cargo capacity.

Lufthansa Cargo announced that the new aircraft arrived at Frankfurt Airport (FRA), the airline’s main hub, on August 17 after being delivered directly from Boeing’s production facility in Everett, Washington, USA.

The German airline currently operates twelve Boeing 777 freighters on long-haul flights. A further six 777Fs are managed by AeroLogic, a joint venture between DHL and Lufthansa Cargo.

Rebecca Jeffrey from aircargonews.net explains how LH Cargo’s fleet is additionally supported by four Airbus A321 freighters for short and medium-haul routes as well as by belly capacities from LH and its partner airlines Discover, Brussels, Austrian Airlines and SunExpress.

Ashwin Bhat, CEO of Lufthansa Cargo, expressed his delight at the fleet expansion and stressed that the new freighter will bring more capacity and flexibility to the company’s global operations.

Bhat stressed that the Boeing 777F, known for its efficiency and modern design, is key to improving service offerings, adapting quickly to market changes and making air cargo operations more sustainable.

The newest aircraft in the fleet has been named “¡Hola Argentina!” in line with Lufthansa’s global naming convention. This addition comes as Lufthansa Cargo continues to expand its global network, including new routes to Monterrey (Mexico), Shenzhen and Zhengzhou (China) to meet growing e-commerce demand.

In 2023, Lufthansa Cargo generated revenues of EUR 3.0 billion and transported 7.5 billion freight tonne-kilometers, cementing its position as one of the world’s leading air cargo companies.

With a global workforce of around 4,150 employees, the company specializes in airport-to-airport services. Its extensive route network covers around 300 destinations in over 100 countries.
