Time doesn’t seem to affect Marianne Vos, because even at 37 years old she is still one of the best women in the peloton and has once again demonstrated her versatility and reliability during the Tour de France Femmes race week. The three top 5 finishes combined with intermediate sprints were just enough to secure the green jersey for the Visma | Lease a Bike leader.
“Of course it’s very special to win the green jersey at the Tour de France. It’s been a tough week. With the team we gave it our all and when the chance to win the green came up we took it and I’m very happy that we brought it to Alpe d’Huez.”
It’s not often that the ladies face such brutal climbing challenges. Even an experienced rider like Vos had to push hard to reach the finish line. “It was pretty tough at first, but in the end I was in a nice group with a teammate, so it was good.”
It is already the second time that Vos has won the Tour de France Femmes points classification (previously in 2022), but given the growing reputation of women’s sport, this victory could be even sweeter. “It’s fantastic (to be on the podium here in Alpe d’Huez) and I think today there was a big fight for the big three. Of course we were behind, but we heard it from the side, from the team car, so we knew how exciting it was.”
