Former Georgia Bulldogs and Washington Huskies quarterback Jacob Eason has been released by the Green Bay Packers. The Packers signed Eason in July. He helped Green Bay gain a third quarterback while Jordan Love sat out. However, the Packers had recently signed Love to a historic contract and did not feel it was necessary to have four quarterbacks on the roster.
Eason, who transferred from Georgia to Washington after the 2017 national championship game, is now a free agent looking for a new NFL home. Eason entered the NFL Draft after throwing 23 touchdowns and eight interceptions in his only season in Washington (he sat out 2018).
Eason has completed 10 passes for 84 yards in his NFL career. In his limited playing time, he has thrown two interceptions and no touchdowns. He has played in two NFL games in his career after being drafted by the Indianapolis Colts in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
The Colts released Eason during the 2021 season. Eason has played extensively in the NFL, including with the Carolina Panthers, San Francisco 49ers and Seattle Seahawks, and was most recently a member of the New York Giants’ practice squad.
Eason, 26, has a strong arm and should have a chance to make the NFL roster in the next few weeks.
