Man throws aquarium onto I-5 in Seattle and attacks police officers

A man was arrested after throwing various objects, including a fish tank, and later striking a Washington State Police officer with a pole on I-5 northbound in Seattle, according to Seattle police.

On Friday around 5:20 p.m., a man in his 50s allegedly threw several objects from the Boren Avenue overpass into the northbound lanes of I-5. One of the objects was an aquarium, according to Seattle police.

At least one vehicle was struck by the objects, but no injuries were reported. Several lanes of I-5 were closed shortly afterward.

According to SPD, a Washington State Patrol (WSP) officer attempted to contact the suspect and was attacked with a pole. The WSP then deployed a taser but was unsuccessful.

Due to the suspect’s lack of cooperation, SPD negotiators were called to the scene. The SWAT team later took control of the scene.

According to Seattle police, the suspect was also armed with a knife and a pitchfork at times.

At around 9:07 p.m., the suspect was arrested by the SWAT team. He is now in the custody of the WSP.

The Olive Way exit ramp and the two right lanes of I-5 northbound were closed for several hours while police worked to apprehend the suspect. They are now reopening.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
