John Aprea, the actor from “The Godfather II” and “Full House”, dies at the age of 83

John Aprea, Jessie’s (John Stamos) father played in Full house and reached the peak of his career in the 1974 film The Godfather – Part IIdied of natural causes in Los Angeles on August 5. He was 83 years old.

John Aprea was born on March 4, 1941 in Englewood, New Jersey, and made his debut in the Steve McQueen film Bullitt in 1968. At the same time, he appeared on television with guest roles in the sitcom Marlo Thomas The girl and crime solver Mike Connors Mannixwhile he added film appearances to his resume in The Grasshopper And The dark side of tomorrowboth in 1970.

While working as a bartender in Los Angeles, Aprea met Francis Ford Coppla and got an audition for the role of Michael Corleone in The GodfatherThe role naturally went to Al Pacino, but Aprea was cast as the young Salvatore Tessio in The Godfather – Part II in 1974.

In 1975, Aprea landed his first regular television appearance in the sitcom The Montefuscoswhich ended after only nine episodes. After a list of other guest appearances on television, his next ongoing role was in the limited drama The Gangster Chronicles in 1981.

Also in the 1980s, Aprea played in the detective drama Matt Houston and had recurring roles in the primetime dramas Falcon Crest And Knots Landing and the daytime soaps Another World and Time of longing. He has also had guest roles in shows such as Melrose Square, Saved the Bell: The new class, Renegade, Silk stalking And The Sopranos.

In 1988, Aprea made his first of seven appearances on Full house and he reprised his role as Nick Katsopolis in the sequel Fuller house in 2017. From 2020 to 2023 he had a recurring role in the web drama The Bay.

He leaves behind his third wife Betsy, his daughter Nicole from a previous marriage to actress Ninon Aprea, and his stepchildren Marika and Valentino.
