Sambhajinagar: At least 80 students from the district school in Maharashtra‘S Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar District were hospitalized after eating biscuits given to them as part of a feeding program, official reports said on Sunday.

The incident took place at a school in Keket Jalgaon village on Saturday morning. According to a local official, the children suffered nausea and vomiting soon after consuming the biscuits around 8:30 am, India Today reported.

Following the incident, the village head and other officials quickly arrived at the school and the affected student was taken to the nearby rural hospital for treatment. The condition of the students is currently stable.

Dr Babasaheb Ghughe, a doctor at the hospital, said, “On Saturday around 8:30 am, over 257 students reported symptoms of food poisoning. 153 of them were taken to the hospital, some were treated and sent home.”

However, seven students who showed severe symptoms were shifted to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Civil Hospital for further treatment, Ghughe added.

A total of 296 students are enrolled at the school. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the food poisoning.
