257 students show symptoms of food poisoning after eating biscuits in a Maharashtra school: Report | Latest News from India

On Saturday morning, children at Keket Jalgaon village school in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar began suffering from nausea and vomiting.

Up to 80 students at a district school in Maharashtra state, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, were hospitalized after eating biscuits from a feeding program.

According to local authorities, children started suffering from nausea and vomiting at Keket Jalgaon village school around 8:30 am on Saturday.

Following the complaint, the village headman and administrative officials arrived at the school and arranged for the students to be transported to a hospital.

Dr Babasaheb Ghughe, a doctor at the hospital, said that 257 students showed symptoms of food poisoning after eating the biscuits. Of these, 153 were taken to hospital and some were treated and sent home, India Today reported.

He also said that seven students who developed severe symptoms were taken to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Civil Hospital for further treatment. The school has 296 students and an investigation into the cause of the food poisoning is currently underway.

On August 8, 15-year-old Shivam Yadav, a student of Class 8, died at Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College in Uttar Pradesh after being transferred from Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College.

Shivam was one of the 90 students who fell ill after dinner at the hostel of Deen Dayal Upadhyay Ashram Paddhati School in Bariyarpur, Deoria on Sunday evening and were taken to Maharishi Devraha Baba Medical College.

The Deoria welfare officer has filed a case against the company supplying food to the school and the canteen operations have been stopped with immediate effect.

Over six dozen students fell ill after consuming puri chole served in the school canteen, complaining of stomach pain and vomiting. The school authorities had given them emergency medicines, but by Monday morning the number of students had risen to 90 and they had to be admitted to the Deoria Medical College Hospital.
