1,000 publishers participate in week-long event — The Kashmir Monitor

SRINAGAR, AUGUST 17: At a time when reading books is becoming less common due to increasing digitalization, and to inculcate reading as a habit among young people, a week-long national event titled ‘Chinar Book Festival’ began today at SKICC in Srinagar.

Dedicated to celebrating the rich culture of reading, this festival promises a series of exciting activities for children, literary sessions and book exhibitions for the people of Srinagar, aimed at rekindling the passion for books in the digital age.

The festival, the first of its kind here, aims to serve as a platform for the discovery of diverse literary works and also to encourage a lifelong reading habit among the younger generation.

Throughout the festival, visitors can look forward to various attractions, including a children’s corner with storytelling sessions and interactive workshops designed to appeal to young people.

In addition, the festival will host a major photography exhibition on themes such as ‘Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh through the ages’, ‘25 Years of Kargil Vijay Diwas’ and ‘National Space Day’. These exhibitions aim to visually portray the rich history of the region and provide visitors with a deeper understanding of its heritage.

A special highlight of the festival is the participation of over 1,000 publishers representing languages ​​like Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri, Dogri and English, and there are more than 200 book stalls for visitors to explore.

Workshops on creative writing, calligraphy, storytelling and emotional intelligence are designed to equip participants with practical skills and creative insights. In addition, interactive symposiums will cover topics such as careers in public service, empathy circles, the art of conversation, etc.
