The Prince and Princess of Wales unveiled the official portrait of their son Prince Louis on Tuesday for the young royal’s 6th birthday. Prince William and Kate Middleton included a personal message with the portrait.
In the photo, the 6-year-old smiles brightly at the camera wearing the Trotters Oliver camel check button-down shirt. The shirt features a checkered pattern with light blue and faded mustard yellow lines running across the fabric. The image was taken outside while Prince Louis is lying on a blanket in the grass.

The photo was also snapped by Prince Louis’ mother, Kate Middleton, who has taken time off from public duties as she focuses on her health, family and ongoing cancer treatment. “Happy 6th birthday Prince Louis! Thank you for all the well wishes today,” the Prince and Princess of Wales’ caption read. The Instagram post also included a blinking camera emoji, crediting the image to the Princess of Wales.
Prince William and Kate release birthday portraits of their children every year. Last year, the couple released a portrait of Prince Louis, the youngest of the couple’s three children, wearing a blue Fair Isle wool sweater from British brand Lallie London’s fall 2021 collection. However, the photos were not taken by Kate. Instead, British photographer Millie Pilkington shot the images of Prince Louis and his mother.
Prince Louis is the rising star of the British royal family. The young king has made several public appearances in recent years and accompanied his parents and older siblings, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, on various royal occasions.
However, at his royal events, Prince Louis has become famous for his facial expressions. While watching the flypast on the balcony of Buckingham Palace during the Trooping the Colour parade in June 2023, Louis made several funny, open-faced faces throughout the event, as seen in the picture above.
