As the sun sank below the horizon on Sunday, August 11, 2024, Herdmanston Lodge was transformed into a vibrant mosaic of creativity and compassion with the dazzling ‘Canvas’ event, sponsored by ExxonMobil Guyana. Cultural elegance met charitable zeal as art, jazz and fashion fused together for a diverse audience. More than just a feast for the senses, ‘Canvas’ aimed to support the North Rupununi Wildlife Club (NRWC) and reflected the community’s deep-rooted commitment to preserving Guyana’s rich natural heritage.

The splendour of Herdmanston Lodge provided an idyllic backdrop for the art portion of Canvas. The walls were covered with exhibits that told vivid stories and captured the essence of the country’s cultural and natural beauty through a variety of mediums. From ornate vases to striking mixed media installations, the art on display was as diverse as it was fascinating.

One of the highlights was a collection of hand-crafted decorative vases by Lisa Thompson. Her masterful depictions of Guyana’s fauna and flora in pottery were a poignant reminder of the natural splendor that the NRWC is committed to protecting. The vibrant hues and meticulous detail of her work drew admiration from visitors, who were visibly moved by the artistic rendition of their beloved natural hues.
