Five motocross riders flipped over Routt County on Friday night during the Octane Addictions stunt show at the Routt County Fair.

The show took place in the open arena in Hayden and was simple: ride fast, jump high and do hard flips.

Among the performers was 40-year-old Adam Jones, who won silver medals at the X-Games and was named International Rider of the Year in 2007. Jones was the oldest of the five performers, but quickly became a fan favorite, winning the show’s “Best Trick” competition, which was based on crowd noise level.

“I’ve been dedicated to freestyle motocross for the last 20 years,” Jones said. “I started out competing a lot in the U.S. and internationally. I traveled all over the world for companies like Nitro Circus. … I loved the competition of it and tried to win events for many years, but now I’m getting a little older, so I enjoy riding for fun and putting on a show for the crowd.”

The other four riders included Luke Dolan, Brett Turcotte, Brian McCarty and Trent Rummel. McCarty is known for holding the record for the longest dirt-to-dirt motocross flip in history.

During a brief break, the crowd had the opportunity to cheer on 2024 Routt County Fair Queen Alyssa Martindale and Fair Supervisor Taylor Clyncke in the center of the arena. Martindale then crowned Clyncke, who will be the 2025 Queen of the Fair.

Things really got going in the second half of the Octane Addictions show. The sun was setting but the intensity of the stunts increased and the reverse tricks left the crowd in awe as they watched in rapt amazement as each rider flew 40 feet above the ground.

The final stunt of the day was called the “trick train,” and involved all five riders charging down the ramp in rapid fire, performing one trick after another, landing and quickly sliding down the cliff to get out of the way.

All five drivers stayed long after the show to take photos and sign autographs for the younger spectators.
