Gift Orban impresses Lyon with brace in friendly against Union Berlin

Super Eagles striker Gift Orban came off the bench to score a brace for Lyon in their 4-0 win over Union Berlin in a pre-season match at the Stadion An der Alten Forseteri, reports Soccernet.ng.

Orban’s future has been in the balance in recent weeks due to Lyon’s activities in the summer transfer market. The Super Eagles star joined Lyon last season after a series of impressive performances for Gent. Unfortunately, he did not get much playing time last season.

This summer, there were talks that Orban could leave Lyon after they signed Georges Mikautadze to strengthen the striker position, which is also occupied by Alexander Lacazzete.

However, these talks may have to be put on hold for a while, as Orban came on as a substitute in a friendly against Union Berlin and scored a brace for Lyon.

The Nigerian striker came on as a second-half substitute for Mikautadze. Lyon took the lead in the second half, with Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Said Benrahma both scoring by the 65th minute. Orban then got on the scoresheet in the 75th minute, collecting a long pass from Lucas Perri outside Union Berlin’s penalty area and smashing the ball home with a thumping shot.

Nine minutes later, Orban scored his second goal when he received a cross in the box and slotted the ball into the net, making it 4-0 for Lyon. The game ended 4-0 in Berlin, and Orban’s goals help him improve his chances of a first-team place next season.
