A plane had to make an emergency landing at Raleigh-Durham International Airport on Thursday morning.
According to RDU, there were reports of smoke on the plane, which led to the emergency landing.
“A commercial flight was diverted to RDU due to reports of smoke inside the aircraft,” RDU said. “The aircraft landed safely and is being towed to a gate.”
For about 10 minutes no planes could land. Several planes circled over the airport during this time.
An American Airlines flight finally landed at around 8:40 a.m. Sky 5 was live on site as the plane touched down.
Two fire engines and several airport emergency vehicles surrounded the aircraft.
RDU said fire and rescue personnel were on site to provide any necessary assistance to passengers and crew.
Rescue workers gathered outside the cockpit area.
The crew attached an aircraft tug to the front wheels of the aircraft and towed it off the runway.
RDU announced that the runways were reopened.
