The 48th Annual Woodland Art Fair brings people from across the country together

The 48th Annual Woodland Art Fair brings people from across the country together

LEXINGTON, Ky. (WKYT) – With over 200 booths filled with unique decorations, clothing and food, the Woodland Fair has something for everyone this weekend.

Lori Houlihan, executive director of the Lexington Art League, says this event brings communities together.

“It really shows what a creative culture we have here,” Houlihan said. “We have so many artisans and people who appreciate handmade things and being together.”

Jess Sheldon, a photographer and tile artist, said she has found a community during her five years of participating in the fair.

“It’s a little scary to put yourself out there, but to have a community of people, other artists, supporting you and rallying around you,” she said. “Then the number of patrons who come is just phenomenal.”

Sheldon says her years of experience at the Woodland Fair inspired many of the pieces she exhibits today.

“People are telling very personal stories from their lives and you know, that’s what it’s all about: creating those stories, creating community and building bridges,” she said.

Many artists also told their story through their work, such as Scott Jones, who dedicated his pieces to his mother.

Before she died, she passed on to him her love of art and culture.

“She introduced me to pop culture and mid-century commercial art, and since then I’ve been working on entering the art fair scene,” Jones said

As a newcomer to the Woodland Art Fair, Jones says he has gained a new community within the Lexington art scene and hopes to share his story with more Kentucky residents.

The fun continues as the Woodland Art Fair returns on Sunday from 10am to 5pm.

WKYT is a proud sponsor of this year’s show and will have a booth for you to come by and visit!
