Michael Pratt makes offer for Packers backup quarterback

GREEN BAY, Wis. — The Green Bay Packers will play a preseason game against the Denver Broncos in Colorado on Sunday night, and rookie quarterback Michael Pratt will see plenty of action.

The seventh-round draft pick may be a rival to Sean Clifford for the backup quarterback job, but Pratt just wants to make the Packers’ roster.

“I think every week, every day, every rep, you get better and more comfortable. I think when you’re in that game situation and you’re acting, there are things that people don’t even think about. The work in the huddle, the work with the clock,” Pratt said. “All of those things are factors that come into play and you don’t even think about. Just being in that position and making the moves and acting definitely gives you a little more confidence because you’ve been in that moment before.”

Even though Pratt tries to stay one step ahead of Clifford, there is a great deal of mutual respect.

“Something that kind of stuck with me was from the beginning when I came here, he said it wasn’t me against him or him against me. It was him and me against everybody else. I think that’s just the mentality that we had. We pushed each other to make each other better. I think that’s what we did. I think we both improved every day,” Pratt said. “He really went out of his way to help me. Just the little things that take so much out of you as a rookie. I think just the little details like footwork, timing, progression, all of those things. He did a really good job of just pointing things out to me and helping me. Really above and beyond what he even has to do. I’m very, very grateful to him.”

Pratt said he was ready to play Sunday night.

“I just go out there,” Pratt said. “I try to take advantage of the opportunities that come my way.”

Pratt hopes he plays well enough for the Packers to sign him as a backup or for another NFL team to sign him. At the very least, Pratt seems like an ideal candidate for the Packers’ practice squad.
