Happy birthday to Jennifer Hudson and David Otunga’s son. The couple celebrated David Daniel Otunga Jr.’s 15th birthday on social media.
The 42-year-old EGOT winner posted a sweet message to her son and asked her followers to help her wish her son a happy birthday.
“Team Jhud can you help me wish my kid @doj10 a very happy and blessed 15th birthday? I can’t believe I’m 15! God is good! Happy birthday my baby!!!”
Hudson’s former partner and David’s father, actor and former WWE wrestler David Otunga, also took to social media to share his warmest wishes for his son on his special day. The 44-year-old shared a carousel of images showing David Jr.’s cake and what looks like some birthday fun on the basketball court.
“My son’s birthday feels like it’s really my birthday because on this day 15 years ago I received the greatest gift of my life! God gave me my best friend. I am so proud of David for many reasons, but most of all I am proud of the wonderful man he is becoming. I love you @doj10 and I can’t wait to see what the next year holds for you.”
Hudson spoke very openly about the challenges of raising a young black man in today’s society.
“As a mother of a black son, you have to make him aware of certain things – who he is in the world. And there are so many levels that he has to learn! But he’s at an age where he can fully understand it. And he’s evolved so much, beyond what I could have ever imagined,” she said in a previous interview with Very easy.
Hudson continued, “My son goes to a predominantly white school. He has huge hair and an afro. He loves to walk in there with the big afro and the bobby pin in his hair. And I say, ‘Do you realize what you’re saying? You have to realize that just wearing your hair is a statement.'”
From where we are, it seems like she and Otunga are taking on the parenting together like pros and are raising a truly wonderful young man. Happy birthday, DOJ! We hope all your birthday wishes come true this year.
