Ascension Sacred Heart plans emergency room in Perdido Key

Ascension Sacred Heart is improving access to its emergency services by building a freestanding emergency department in Perdido Key. Preliminary plans call for construction of the new building to be completed next summer.

The News Journal previously reported that the new medical building would be 10,800 square feet, but it is now planned for about 11,400 square feet. In addition, Ascension now plans for the facility to have 57 parking spaces instead of the 78 spaces that were included in the original proposal.

Ascension continues to plan to build this facility off Sorrento Road near its existing primary care clinic at 13137 Sorrento Road.

In addition, the establishment of a triage area, a resuscitation room, nine treatment stations and CT and X-ray technology is planned. Over 40 employees are expected to be employed at the new location.

“This addition ensures that residents in southwest Escambia County receive the timely, high-quality healthcare they need,” said Will Condon, president and CEO of Ascension Sacred Heart, in a press release. “As our community grows, it is up to us to meet their healthcare needs and grow with them.”

The project was reviewed by Escambia County’s Development Review Committee on Wednesday, but a building permit for the plans has not yet been issued.

This facility will be operated by Ascension Sacred Heart Pensacola and Studer Family Children’s Hospital at Ascension Sacred Heart. It will also be the third freestanding emergency department in the area that Sacred Heart has built in the last six years.

“Northwest Florida is growing rapidly and Sacred Heart is constantly looking for ways to meet the needs of our changing community,” said Michael Shaw, chief strategy officer for Ascension Florida, in a press release. “Our freestanding emergency departments are supported by the award-winning care of Sacred Heart Pensacola and provide additional peace of mind for everyone in this area who needs emergency care.”

Ascension Sacred Heart Health Center in Perdido Key currently offers services such as primary care, imaging and more to patients in the area.
