EL CENTRO, CA (Saturday, August 16, 2024) – Legacy MD Medical Group (formerly Vo Medical Center) opened its doors at 1699 North Imperial Avenue in El Centro on Monday, August 12. It is a 32,000 square foot, two-story facility that is intended to be a one-stop healthcare center, according to Dr. Tien Vo (Legacy MD Medical Director) and the other members of the medical team.
Jhoana Tovar, a registered nurse, could hardly contain her excitement as the facility finally opened its doors and began accepting its current and new patients. “I’m excited. I can’t even put it into words. We want all patients to come in and check it out. It’s like a one-stop shop,” Tovar said.
Tovar said the new facility will have a big impact on the local community. “I think it will help the community tremendously. A lot of patients obviously have a lot of difficulty getting an appointment just to reorder medication or for a routine checkup or if they’re sick or not feeling well, sometimes the appointments without an appointment are very limited at other clinics. Here, you don’t actually have to make an appointment. You can just come in and one of our (healthcare) providers will check you out. I think it’s going to be something great for the whole community,” Tovar said.
Victor Murgia, Legacy Executive Manager, said, “This facility represents a huge milestone in our mission to provide better healthcare to the Imperial Valley community.”
Murgia said the facility has a team of health care providers and specialists. There will be urgent care, outpatient care, a cardiac rehabilitation center, a sensory room, an on-site pharmacy with a drive-thru and other medical services with state-of-the-art equipment.
Murgia highlighted the imaging department with its open MRI feature, which may be the only one of its kind in the area. This means the patient can actually stand or lie on the machine while having clear space around them, preventing feelings of claustrophobia. “It’s very accurate,” Vo said.
Dr. Juan Velazquez (Legacy MD Executive Medical Director) said the new facility also reflects the quality of medical services and specialists they bring to the region. “We are very pleased because we have many medical professionals working with us and we have a facility that offers many medical services under one roof. And that is a great advantage and benefit for our patients,” Velazquez said.
The facility also offers 3D mammography with tomosynthesis, digital X-ray with bone densitometry (DEXA), ultrasound and fibroscan.
Dr. Vo said they will provide preventive care and education to prevent traumatic health events. This includes regular screenings for diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol and health checks, diet programs and exercise programs such as Zumba and Tai Chi. They will also provide mental health services. “We want to increase the life expectancy of patients,” Vo said.
Dr. Vo and Dr. Strong both emphasized that their focus is on providing quality healthcare and customer service.
“It is very important to me to improve the quality of care,” Strong said.

Dr. Vo said they have expanded their hours to better serve the community. They will be open from 7am to 9pm Monday to Friday and from 8am to 12pm on weekends.
