A Microsoft Windows issue has caused problems at major airports around the world, including Manchester Airport.
Due to the technical problem, banks, telecommunications companies, television stations, radio stations and supermarkets also had to deal with a blue screen error on the computers running the corresponding software.
Many passengers have taken to social media to complain about delays and problems at airports caused by the IT outage. Ryanair has issued a statement to travellers saying it is experiencing “disruptions across the network” due to a global third-party IT outage. Customers are asked to arrive at the airport at least three hours before their scheduled flight.

A Ryanair spokesperson said: “We are currently experiencing disruption across our network due to a global third-party IT outage that is outside of our control. We advise all passengers to arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before their scheduled departure time.”
“If you are departing today and have not yet checked in for your flight, you can do so at the airport. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this third-party global IT outage.”
At this time, passengers are advised to prepare for travel as usual, the airport said. Check-in areas are busier than usual and may take a little longer, but the airport is not requiring passengers to arrive at the airport earlier than recommended by their airlines.
