DULUTH – It’s hard not to notice a visit from the Viking Octantis.
But even during the Norwegian cruise ship’s short stay on Thursday, it was not easy to see the sun at times as the ship and its passengers had to contend with sudden changes in the weather.
Viking Octantis arrived at about 4:30 a.m. and departed at 7:30 p.m. While the ship was anchored in Duluth Harbor, rain and fog rolled in throughout the morning and afternoon before clearing and the sun came out again.
Among the ships that caught a glimpse of Viking Octantis was the Paul R. Tregurtha, a well-known U.S. ocean-going vessel that arrived in the afternoon and departed at 8 a.m. Friday for a voyage to the port of St. Clair near Lake Erie, according to the website marinetraffic.com.
The website marinetraffic also said Viking Octantis arrived in Thunder Bay, Ontario, just before 8 a.m. Friday. The cruise ship has made several trips to Duluth-Superior in recent years.
