Rick Ross honors Nipsey Hussle with heartfelt birthday message

The death of Nipsey Hussle in 2019 remains one of the most tragic and talked about deaths in hip-hop, with fans and colleagues frequently reflecting on his legacy, his contributions to hip-hop, and more. Yesterday (August 15), Nipsey would have turned 39 years old had he not become a victim of gun violence. In honor of the birthday, Rick Ross took to social media to share a heartfelt message about his late collaborator and family.

“Today my boy Nipsey Hussle would have been 39 years old. The marathon continues,” he began. “Shout out to Blacc Sam, the whole TMC family, the squad… There’s not many people that could have kept this empire going and made it soar this high.”

“I’m sure Nip, he’s smiling,” Ross added. “He was a legend, he was way advanced, way too advanced for lame n***as, slow n***as. The boy was on some different sh*t 10 years ago. So you know what’s up, man.” Ross isn’t the only one remembering Nipsey these days, though. His brother Blacc Sam recently sat down with Big Boi for an interview where he recalled how he arranged his funeral. He revealed that churches refused to host the funeral out of fear. With the help of the right people, they ended up holding it at Crypto.com Arena, the former Staples Center.

“After weeks of not being able to find a venue, we got the Staples for the brother. And at that point, it was like, we had to make sure we did this right for the brother,” he explained. Their efforts resulted in a 25-mile procession attended by around 20,000 people to honor Nipsey.
