John Cena comments on the cancelled film “Coyote vs. Acme”

John Cena has commented on his currently shelved animated film “Coyote vs. Acme.”

Warner Bros. has put its live-action animation/CGI film on hold despite spending a whopping $70 million. The film was reportedly put on hold in November 2023 in order to receive a $30 million tax break. However, the film was later allowed to be distributed to other distributors.

A report from The Wrap last February said Amazon, Netflix and Paramount had already screened the films and were ready to make their bids. Warner Bros reportedly wanted an offer in the $75-80 million range or was willing to accept the $35-40 million as a tax write-off.

The film is based on a 1990 New Yorker article by Ian Frazier, “Coyote vs Acme,” which features the Looney Tunes characters Wile E. Coyote and the Acme Corporation. It tells the story of Coyote suing the Acme Corporation after numerous failed attempts to kill his arch-nemesis, the Road Runner, with their weapons.

In recent news, AEW star Pac has announced his intention to compete in a championship match at All Out 2024.

While Will Forte played Coyote’s lawyer, John Cena represented the lawyer for Acme Corporation. In a recent interview, Cena talked about the current status and future of the project.

John Cena wants to give the film “Coyote Vs Acme” “a chance”

In an interview with The Wrap, John Cena shared his thoughts on the status of the film. He spoke openly about his involvement in the film, but also understood the reasons behind the film’s cancellation.

There’s a lot. And everyone has a different perspective. We don’t own the film. That’s the hard thing about this business, you have a sense of ownership because you put your heart and soul into it. And (director) Dave Green and everyone involved, we made a film that we thought was good. “I would have loved to see it if it had been given a chance. But I’m only one person. And if it had been shelved, I would have to think it was shelved for the right reasons and that it was a good business decision.”

Cena continued:

I think I would be very regretful and ashamed if I looked back on the legacy of the film and it was put on hold for other reasons. So I have to believe in the process. And I love the film, I’m in it with all my heart, but it’s someone else’s project and you can do whatever you want with it and you’ve chosen accordingly.”

The former WWE Champion is currently involved in the media rounds for his Amazon Prime film “Jackpot,” which also stars Awkwafina and Simu Liu.

In other news, MJF also shared the current status of his promotion’s locker room.
