DES MOINES, Iowa (KCCI) – There is always friendly competition at the Iowa State Fair.

These include the competition to see who can blow the biggest bubble gum bubble and the cake eating contest.

In the bubble gum contest, all age groups were divided into groups to see who could blow the biggest bubble. The judges measured the bubbles.

Juanita Ferber-Friday, who took second place, showed that all you have to do to take part in this event is love gum.

“I watch every year,” Ferber-Friday said. “The Friday family has been camping here for 45 years, but this was my first time. I love chewing gum and blowing bubbles.”

Her bladder was seven inches in diameter.

8-year-old Zack Lucas was the star of the pie eating contest at the Iowa State Fair.

But that was not the only competition that took place at the fair on Thursday.

An eight-year-old was the star of the cake eating contest.

Zack Lucas took the cake eater crown.

Afterwards he was able to enjoy the sweet taste of victory.

“This is the first time I’ve ever won first place in a chocolate cake and frosting eating contest,” Lucas said. “I’ve never done that in my life. And it’s so much fun and I like to get dirty sometimes. And the chocolate tastes so good.”

The Iowa State Fair ends this weekend in Des Moines.
