WIRED welcomes four new team members

Katie Drummond | WIRED

The following note was recently shared with WIRED staff:

It has been a successful year for WIRED so far, and the success stories continue: I am delighted to welcome several new, talented colleagues to the team!

Verity Burns joins the WIRED Gear team as Associate Editor. She is based in the UK office and reports to Jeremy White. Verity has over 15 years’ experience writing and editing consumer technology news, features and reviews. She has worked for outlets including MSN, Pocket-lint and Stuff, and has been a freelance writer and editor for several outlets over the past year.

Skye Battles joins the WIRED photography team as photo editor. She will be based in San Francisco and report to Anna Alexander. Skye has been a photographer and producer of photo shoots for over 15 years. Most recently, Skye has been working with major art museums in San Francisco on photo events. (For a preview of Skye’s work, check out her incredible portfolio here.)

Zeyi Yang joins WIRED’s business desk as senior China editor. Based in New York, Zeyi writes about a range of technologies, including artificial intelligence, electric vehicles, semiconductors and social media. Most recently he covered Chinese tech for MIT Technology Review and previously worked for Protocol and Rest of World. He has also written for Columbia Journalism Review, South China Morning Post and Nikkei Asia.

Alana Yzola is now WIRED’s full-time Senior Multiplatform Producer based in DC and reporting to Indu Chandrasekhar. Alana has worked as a producer for BuzzFeed and Complex Networks, among others. You all know Alana’s genius, as she has been under contract with WIRED for several months. She will work closely with Indu and Evy to lead WIRED’s social video strategy and production; Hallie Yearwood in London will report to Alana to complete this video dream team.

Please join me in virtually welcoming your new colleagues and extend a warm welcome to each of them when you see them in the UK, San Francisco and New York offices. (And keep your eyes peeled; we’ll be announcing more new team members in the coming weeks…).
