Porter Airlines deploys Embraer E195-E2 at Toronto Pearson

This week, Canadian carrier Porter Airlines announced a new route for its Embraer E195-E2 jets, offering travelers in the Toronto area a wider choice of aircraft and airports. In October, Porter Airlines will offer a new service between Toronto Pearson International and Thunder Bay with its Embraer E195-E2, complementing existing turboprop services from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport.


New service and new aircraft

Effective October 16, 2024, Porter Airlines (Porter) will operate three times a week service with the 132-seat Embraer E195-E2 from Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ) to Thunder Bay International Airport (YQT). This complements Porter’s existing flights from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport (YTZ) with the De Havilland Dash 8-400 turboprop aircraft.

Accordingly Planespotters.netPorter has a fleet of 67 aircraft, including 38 Embraer E195-E2s and 29 De Havilland Dash 8-400s configured in a 74-seat single-class configuration. The average age of the fleet is 6.8 years, with the Embraer E2s averaging just one year and the Dash 8-400s averaging 14.5 years.

Fiji Airways has now turned its attention to the East and entered into a new partnership with Canada’s Porter Airlines, which should be successful for both sides.

Porter has served the Thunder Bay region, approximately 580 miles from Toronto, since 2009. The airline currently operates Dash 8-400 service up to five times a day and also offers twice-daily turboprop flights between the country’s capital Ottawa and Thunder Bay.

Passengers on the new service will enjoy the Porter E195-E2’s premium economy experience, with no middle seats, complimentary beer and wine by the glass, complimentary premium snacks and free, high-speed Wi-Fi. Porter Airlines President Kevin Jackson said the new service will increase capacity by more than 10% and provide more opportunities for everyone to fly with Porter.

“Thunder Bay is very loyal to Porter and we are committed to providing the community with a variety of service options at competitive prices. We hope to expand flights on this route as we add more new E195-E2s to our fleet next year.”

More choice for guests

Between October 16 and 26, service will depart Toronto Pearson at 07:05 and arrive in Thunder Bay at 09:00 on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays. The return flight will depart Thunder Bay at 09:55 and is scheduled to arrive in Toronto at 11:42. For the 2024/2025 winter season, which begins October 27, times will change to depart YYZ at 07:20 and arrive in Thunder Bay at 09:15, with the return flight leaving YQT at 10:10 and arriving in Toronto at 11:57.

Porter is Thunder Bay’s largest airline and currently serves the region with service to Toronto Pearson, Billy Bishop Toronto City and Ottawa International Airport (YOW).
