Packers at Broncos: Six things to watch out for

One: The Broncos are 7-point favorites at FanDuel Sportsbook. Denver entered the game as a 3.5-point favorite, but the line changed when it was announced that Jordan Love would not play.

The Packers were 3.5 points behind in their win at Cleveland last week.

Two: The game is always about the quarterbacks. Sean Clifford will start for Green Bay and rookie Michael Pratt will be the end.

“I’m here to, when I’m in the game, make as many plays as I can, have a ton of fun and play the game I love,” Clifford said. “I’d love to play the whole game; I know Mike would say the same thing. No matter how many times I’m out there, I’m going to do my best, keep putting on a smile and keep competing.”

For Denver, rookie Bo Nix, who completed 15 of 21 passes for 125 yards and a touchdown in last week’s win over Indianapolis, has emerged as the favorite to start. Jarrett Stidham, who started against the Colts, and Zach Wilson are the other quarterbacks.

“His decision-making was good,” Broncos coach Sean Payton said of Nix this week. “I felt like he was comfortable in the pocket. I thought his positions were good. The most important job of a quarterback is to lead his team, and we scored. There are two plays where I think he can put his feet – he goes back a little bit and we can fix that. But I liked the performance of his group while he was there. Ultimately, that’s their job. The whole group as a whole – and I’m talking about the three (quarterbacks) – we didn’t have any sacks. There were a lot of positives.”

Nix has the fifth lowest chances in the race for Rookie of the Year.

Three: Packers running back Emanuel Wilson went undrafted in 2023 and began his career in Denver, lasting just three days.

When Wilson was signed to the Packers’ roster last year, he told reporters how much he appreciated the treatment in Green Bay compared to Denver.

This week he said he had “a lot” of inferiority feelings.

“Man, the Broncos kicked me out, so I’m going in there with a different mindset to prove something to them,” he said. “That’s all, really.”

Four: Broncos right guard Quinn Meinerz played at Division III Wisconsin-Whitewater. After starting all 17 games last season, he signed a four-year, $80 million contract extension last month.

“He’s definitely a powerful, tenacious run blocker. He does a lot of things extremely well,” Payton said in June. “I think he loves it. He loves the process, which is half the battle. So I love him being our right guard.”

Five: A bit of irrelevant and meaningless history – the Broncos are 7-3 against the Packers in the preseason. Their last meeting was in 2017 in Denver, where the Broncos won 20-17. Aaron Rodgers started and played 10 snaps; Brett Hundley finished the game, completing 20 of 30 passes.

In the last regular season, Green Bay lost 19-17 in Denver. Love threw for just 180 yards and his late interception sealed the team’s fate.

Six: While the Packers are coming off a playoff appearance and almost reached the NFC Championship Game, The Broncos have missed the playoffs eight years in a rowthe second longest streak in the league after the New York Jets’ 13-year hiatus. They haven’t made the playoffs since winning the Super Bowl.
