Jackpot!
is a wonderfully silly roar of a film with a stunning cast.

One of the more negative reviews, however, written by Andrew Parker of The Gate, said: “Despite having two stars with great instincts and chemistry and a comedy legend working behind the camera, the seedy, chaotic Jackpot! is not the sum of its parts.” Robert Taylor of Collider also said in a review: “The film could be called Jackpot!but no one emerges as a winner.”

The comedy in Jackpot! divides the audience

“Sometimes if you tell too many jokes, you can lose the tension,” Cena said in a recent UPI interview about the film’s comedy. “There’s always a joke, but you don’t want to tell a joke that spoils the tension.” Of his role, Cena added: “I’m supposed to be a perhaps ignorantly virtuous, larger-than-life, smiling face of hope in a place where there’s not a lot of faith in humanity.”

Paul Feig (Ghostbusters: Answer the Call) directed Jackpot! with a screenplay by Rob Yescombe. The film is set in a not too distant future in which it is legal for anyone who has bought a losing lottery ticket to murder a winner and claim the prize. When an unsuccessful actress (Awkwafina, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings) wins the lottery, a lottery protection agent (John Cena, Peacemaker) agrees to protect them in exchange for a portion of their profits.

Feig produced along with Joe Roth, Jeff Kirschenbaum and Laura Fischer. The film also stars Ayden Mayeri, Donald Elise Watkins, Sam Asghari, Colson Baker, Simu Liu, Seann William Scott, Bobby Lee and Marian Green.

Jackpot! is now streaming on Prime Video.
