Warriors superstar Steph Curry was a late bloomer.

Unlike other NBA stars, the ten-time All-Star was only able to dunk when he was almost an adult – a rarity for a basketball prodigy.

An embarrassed Curry hilariously admitted how old he was when he made his first layup.

“Nineteen years old,” Curry said in a video of responses from Team USA players that the NBA shared Thursday on X, formerly known as Twitter (h/t @TheWarriorsTalk). “Freshman in college. That’s how long it took me. Davidson College. From lob, two feet, two hands. It was a loud day on campus, that day.”

There is no footage – yet – of Curry’s momentous slam.

Curry’s Olympic teammates claimed they started dunking at a much younger age.

LeBron James said he was 14, Kevin Durant said he was 13, Jayson Tatum said he was 12 and Bam Adebayo said he was 11.

Sure, Curry can’t beat those age groups. But when the “Baby-Faced Assassin” attacks the basket, it’s unforgettable and often looks like a glitch in a basketball video game.

Curry said the cut-and-slam against the Cleveland Cavaliers over six years ago felt unreal.

“It was like a dream,” Curry said on Jan. 15, 2018, after the Warriors’ 118-108 victory. “I thought I was going to wake up and be back in my bed at the hotel, but it actually happened.”

“Someone said it was like seeing a unicorn. But for me, it was pretty cool to dunk in that situation.”

Curry shouldn’t feel guilty about the age at which he first dunked.

After all, Curry is the best shooter in NBA history and specializes in three-point shots. And three are worth more than two.

Curry made 3,747 three-point shots in his career, which is another reason he will be inducted into the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.
