John William Meek Jr. 1938-2024

John William Meek Jr., 85, of Greencastle, returned home to be with his son on Wednesday, August 14, 2024, surrounded by family.

He was the son of the late John W. Meek Sr. and Katherine E. Wann Meek and was born on December 1, 1938 in Reading, Pennsylvania.

John was predeceased by his son Johnny Meek of Greencastle.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Linda Lee Hepner Meek, whom he married on August 18, 1962; three children: Karen Rider of Greencastle, Susan Bowen and her husband, Scott, of Greencastle, and Jim Meek and his wife, Lacy, of York; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

John graduated from Wyomissing High School in 1956 and earned a bachelor’s degree from the Institute of Fine Arts of Maryland in 1962. He was an advertising manager for the Landis Tool Company for 23 years. Until his retirement, he worked as a senior draftsman at Waynesboro Design and later as a senior draftsman at Signal Corporation.

John was a talented artist and photographer. He was a proud man who loved historic camping adventures and telling stories to anyone who would listen. His greatest joy in life, however, was his children and grandchildren, whose sporting activities he was always the biggest fan and supporter of. But what he cherished most was the love he felt when spending time with his family.

The family would like to thank the intensive care staff at Wellspan Chambersburg Hospital and the staff at Grane Hospice Care.

A private memorial service will be held for John, the burial will take place in Name of the cemeteryA celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
