MILAN — Oscar-winning actress Diane Keaton is known for her all-black looks, including turtlenecks, tweed trousers, statement glasses and her signature black hats. Now that distinctive aesthetic has made its way to the dinner table and the bedroom, this time with Hudson Grace.

On Thursday, Keaton announced the collaboration with the California-based interior design brand, which was founded in 2012 by two friends, Monelle Totah and Gary McNatton, in the Presidio Heights neighborhood of San Francisco.

Everything from the bedding and candles to the coffee mugs is in black and white, reflecting the casual Nor Cal entertaining style Hudson Grace is known for. The collection includes a total of 109 pieces across kitchenware, entertaining tools, bedding, decor and pet accessories, ranging in price from $18 to $595.

Standout pieces include the black and white check sheets, salad/dessert plates, and an elegant black house candle made especially for Keaton with cardamom and blue sage and finished with warm vetiver and amber. Additionally, the collection includes alpaca throws and a linen collection with woven gingham checks, as well as pet accessories like the House Icon dog food bowls inspired by Keaton’s dog Reggie.

The actress and Totah became friends years ago when Keaton was shopping at the Brentwood store, and their shared love of inspiring spaces quickly brought them closer together.

Totah told WWD that Keaton envisioned a playful and accessible collection that would make entertaining and living easier while reflecting Keaton’s iconic and versatile style. “It puts a modern spin on timeless pieces that you can use in your home for years,” Totah said.

This is not the first time Keaton has ventured into the home sector.

In 2022, she collaborated with Fabricut Inc.’s S. Harris brand on a fabric line with over 50 designs, and in 2019, she collaborated with luxury furniture maker Aidan Gray on a lighting collection.

WWD spoke to the Hollywood star of films such as Annie Hall and Baby Boom about her latest home project, her love of black and white, and how her parents sparked her passion for interior design.

WWD: When did your affinity for interior design begin?

Diane Keaton: All credit goes to my mother, Dorothy, who took me on countless trips to Goodwill. There we would explore the shelves and purchase unusual and unique items. I got my love of homes from my father, Jack, who took me to countless open houses. I thought about walking through empty homes and dreaming of one day furnishing my own. The combination of the two became my lifelong passion – home design.

WWD: How is this Hudson Grace collection an opportunity for you as an actress to break new ground with your first home collaboration?

DK: Honestly, it’s an honor. I love Monelle’s eclectic approach to design. When she asked me to collaborate, it was not only effortless, but we spoke the same language. Believe me, that rarely happens to me. She gave me the opportunity and I’m truly grateful for it.

WWD: Why black and white?

DK: I’ve always liked black and white. I think it’s only recently that I’ve started to get a bit of colour, like Keaton red. It’s clean, simple and I think it never goes out of style.

WWD: Have you ever completed your own interior design or home improvement projects? What was your favorite or most challenging and why?

DK: The house I currently live in was built from scratch. It was a masterpiece. I learned so much. For me, the kitchen is my favorite room where friends, family, and basically anyone can gather and entertain. I love all the pieces we created for the kitchen and even threw in some unique objects. I like sturdy plates, masculine scented candles, and linen bedding. I think we’ve nailed our tastes perfectly.

WWD: Which products from this collection do you like best and why? Are there any anecdotes about its creation?

Germany.: Can I say “all”? That’s true. But if I had to choose one, it would be all the dog products inspired by my beloved Reggie. She inspired me to design the beds, the water bowl, and even the doorstop. They will be scattered all over the place for Reggie. She’s the boss in the house.

WWD: What advice would you give to people trying to decorate their home from scratch? What are your top tips for creating a cozy home?

DK: Take risks…listen to yourself and mix it up. I love playing around and moving things from room to room. Cut out magazines and get an inspiration folder for each room in the house. This will spark your imagination and help you dream big.
