Gilbert Arenas tells a hilarious story about how he talked badly about Dwyane Wade and regretted it

Gilbert Arenas shared a hilarious memory of talking badly about a young Dwyane Wade and immediately regretting it.

Arenas told the story in a recent episode of the podcast β€œThe OGs.”

“The season started, we’re coming into the 2004-2005 season,” Arenas said. “Everyone’s talking about the Heat. Shaq was there. And I thought, ‘Oh yeah, we’ll just treat D-Wade like he’s in the Olympics, just play zone.’ I didn’t think anything of it. You know how you look at the scoreboards (after the game)? We’ve got three games, like 40 (points), 45. Did he circle the date? Because the way he’s coming at us…

“…I called the hotel. ‘Hey, Dwayne. Hey, man, listen. Yeah, it’s Gil. Hey, that stuff, I don’t know if you saw it about two weeks ago. Yeah, they misunderstood that. I didn’t say it like that, did I? I just wanted to tell you. Warm-up line, (Wade is) in demon mode. I said, ‘I don’t know if you warm up like that, but he doesn’t look right, it doesn’t look like that call helped.’ That was the last time I ever said anything about a player.”

Arenas isn’t kidding when he says Wade destroyed the Wizards this season.

When the Heat faced the Wizards in the second round of the 2005 playoffs, Wade finished the series averaging 31 points, seven rebounds and eight assists per game as Miami swept Washington.

Although the Heat lost the Eastern Conference finals to the Pistons that season, Wade led them to the championship the following year.
