Pete Docter reveals details about upcoming Pixar projects

ANAHEIM, California — Known for developing a wide range of popular animated films, Pixar previewed its upcoming projects at this year’s Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23, including two new series coming to Disney+.

Here is a breakdown of all announced projects currently in development.

Coming out March 6, 2026, Hoppers is a new original story about a little girl who is so fascinated by animals that she transfers her brain into the body of a robot beaver. The concept art gives a taste of the chaos that will ensue once the brain transfer is complete.

“Toy Story 5” is being developed by director Andrew Stanton, who previously worked on films such as “Toy Story 3,” “Finding Dory,” “Wall-E” and many other Pixar original films.

This new story tackles a modern issue: children are so caught up in their technology that they no longer pay attention to their toys. What effect might this have on a toy’s emotions? “Toy Story 5” hits theaters on June 19, 2026.

The Parr family is making their superhero return in Incredibles 3, with Brad Bird in development. More information to follow soon.

Pixar’s first animated series will hit Disney+ on December 6. The series centers on a coed middle school softball team, with each episode following the point of view of a different player. A new trailer has been released showcasing the unique animation styles of each episode.

And if you’re still craving more Inside Out stories, another series called Dream Productions will premiere on Disney+ in 2025. The story follows a “dream” director named Paula Persimmon and the difficult process of adapting to Riley’s changing interests.

On The Red Carpet caught up with Pete Docter after the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23, where he told us more about Pixar’s mindset when producing sequels and original stories.

“We have a rule for ourselves: If we can’t follow up on a big idea like that, I don’t want to do it just because we should,” he said. “I want to do it because we have something new to say with these characters. And there were a number of films that we would have loved to have a sequel to, but we couldn’t think of anything.”
