WEST HAVEN, CT — Among the 50 Connecticut high school students who recently completed the Green STEP summer program were three West Haven residents.

In addition to the program certificates, 23 students received the technical certifications required for the eco-construction and energy efficiency sectors and nine students were awarded certificates of excellence for their educational path, including:

Participating students were taught by certified industry experts and had the opportunity to choose between three courses: Weatherization and Modernization of Existing Buildings, Decarbonization and Efficient Building Systems, and Green Building and New Construction. Career preparation courses such as heat pumps and geothermal energy, resume and interview preparation, and OSHA 10 were also available to all students.

Green STEP has been providing industry training to the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System (CTECS) for over 10 years. The program expanded its curriculum last year to include all high school students across Connecticut by offering virtual after-school certificate training and a summer program designed to prepare students for careers in the green building and energy efficiency industries. To date, 525 students have been certified through the program.
