News from the community

On July 28, 2024, members of First Congregational Church UCC of Chelsea presented a gift of $3,600 to the Archer family of Adrian, founders of Jasmynn’s Voice. Jasmynn’s Voice is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization based in Adrian, Michigan. It was founded by Jasmynn Archer, who was diagnosed with autism at age 3. She communicates nonverbally and now uses an iPad to learn and communicate. This device gives her and many others the opportunity to express themselves.

Jazz, along with her parents, was a vibrant part of this community. The church’s mission was to provide funds to purchase additional communication apps or iPads for other children like Jazz. The nonprofit helps families connect in this way through educational apps. Apps specifically designed to “talk” to non-speaking children/adults on the autism spectrum can be the key to breaking silence and alleviating behavioral issues, fears, and frustrations.

Autism is on the rise. According to recent estimates from the CDC, 1 in 36 children are affected. Jasmynn’s Voice currently serves 18 counties in Michigan and has helped hundreds of families with the tools and guidance to help their child communicate and be understood in a neurotypical world.
