WSU guard Brock Dieu comments on the quarterback battle between John Mateer and Zevi Eckhaus

Washington State redshirt junior guard Brock Dieu showed his excitement for the upcoming season as the Cougars resume fall camp this week. Dieu even called this camp the best he has attended at WSU.

As the end of training camp approaches, Dieu and the rest of the offense are moving toward one of their first goals of the year: finding a starting quarterback. Head coach Jake Dickert stated that the winner of this position battle between John Mateer and Zevi Eckhaus will be publicly announced on Monday, August 19.

“We have a great quarterback battle,” Dieu told reporters this week. “They both work hard and do everything they can to push each other to be the best they can.”

For Dieu, the decision will not greatly affect the offensive line in any way. The two quarterbacks may be different, but both appear to have the ability to lead WSU to victory.

“Zevi is more of a ‘rah-rah’ guy. John is pretty cool, calm and collected and says ‘Hey, let’s do this.’ But they both have a great way of playing, they both have a different style and we as a group of five guys just work well with both of them.”
