Pikes Peak United Way offers assistance with the FAFSA application

(COLORADO SPRINGS) – Pikes Peak United Way is assisting parents and students with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) through the end of August.

Each year, students and parents must complete the online form to receive financial aid. FASFA covers federal grants, student financial aid, and student loans. It’s free to fill out, but many families have difficulty providing the information needed to fill out the form correctly.

Pikes Peak United Way is stepping in and said its staff is available by appointment to help local families.

“We are here to help,” said Cindy Aubrey, CEO of United Way. “Our Career Readiness team is available to help you complete the federal form, which is mandatory for students who need government assistance to finance their education.”

FASFA, updated in 2024, requires families to create a verified account that includes identification and the contributing parent or spouse’s information for the form, as well as income and asset information. Navigating the form can be challenging, especially for first-generation college students.

“We are happy to be able to provide this support to local families,” Aubrey said. “Please reach out to us and we will help you get the federal assistance you need for college.”

Interested families and students can call 2-1-1 to schedule an appointment.
