Luckily, MasterBrand Cabinets, the country’s leading cabinet manufacturer, just released its 2025 Cabinetry Design and Trend Report, which reflects current consumer desires as well as predictions from forward-thinking industry experts like interior designers. We spoke with Stephanie Pierce, the brand’s design and trend director, who broke down the report’s findings, from the kitchen trends that are declining to vintage colors that are making a comeback.
Modern traditional style

It seemed like the country style aesthetic would never go away, but according to MasterBrand, country style, urban or industrial style kitchens have seen the biggest decline in popularity in recent years.
What’s popular right now are “soft modern,” “modern traditional,” and transitional styles—essentially a mix of modern and traditional elements. It seems that millennials are now craving a break from the minimalist aesthetic (or “sea of sameness,” as Pierce puts it) that has dominated design for over a decade.
Fringe colors

Color is no longer limited to the kitchen island, even for those who aren’t as adventurous when choosing designs. According to Pierce, extending the pop of color to the kitchen perimeter is quickly becoming the norm. She also confirmed what we’re seeing as a trend – shades of blue and green are the most popular hues, along with shades of white.
“There are now six different shades of blue that are standard, and green is on the rise. A third of the designers we surveyed have chosen green as the color for a recent project,” says Pierce. But she is keen to point out that unexpected “edge colors” are also popping up – colors like red and burgundy that convey a nostalgic ’90s vibe. Mustard yellow, pale yellow and dark teal are also on the rise.
Trend alert
While MasterBrand specializes exclusively in carpentry work, did confirm that certain tiles are extremely popular today, especially geometric tile designs, especially in large-scale repetitions, and matt tiles with grooved or textured profiles in neutral colours.
Wood tones

When we met with MasterBrand last year, they confirmed that wood tones are becoming increasingly popular. This year, they confirmed that wood tones have become even more important as homeowners look to bring warmth and natural textures into their kitchens.
Oak, walnut and maple are the most popular wood species, with consumers preferring light and medium-colored stains. Pierce predicts that darker stains will gain popularity in the next few years, contributing to a more retro aesthetic.
Advanced Shaker Doors

The Shaker-style door is still the most popular type of cabinet front, Pierce confirms. It is the perfect blend of modern and traditional, which is not surprising considering that “modern traditional” is all the rage right now. What Is The development of the style is surprising.
Pierce says Shaker-style doors are becoming a bit more modern as the signature thick borders become narrower—so much so that you might not automatically recognize that they’re Shaker cabinets. Get ready to see more of this fresh take on the classic style.
“Noble” pantries, sculleries and back kitchens

Pantries are certainly not a new thing, and they are not normally the coolest or most exciting part of a kitchen, especially when they are disorganized chaos. But the glorification of food storage becomes a thingsaid Pierce, who says that “elegant” pantries – equipped with lots of cabinets – are currently in demand.
Luxury pantries are especially popular in new construction, where you’re not tied to an existing floor plan. And in existing buildings, 66% of designers surveyed have found that more and more homeowners are expanding their pantry space with floor-to-ceiling cabinets, according to MasterBrand.
The rise of these spaces, which typically include sinks and dishwashers, shows the lengths homeowners go to to create a clean, efficient and well-organized main kitchen area.
Hidden features

According to MasterBrand, the number one lifestyle trend influencing their consumers’ choices is the desire to declutter and organize, and one of the easiest ways to achieve this is to hide as much as possible.
Pierce says there’s a trend toward unobtrusive kitchens with sliding doors, built-in charging stations to hide appliances, and even appliance garages where people store things like blenders and toasters. Pierce also adds that “locker-style” cabinets are also in demand.
