Some hope for a more inclusive future

Last month, Democratic Party leaders forced President Joe Biden to end his re-election campaign in one of the most reckless acts of ageism in modern history. “What I find interesting is that this is more about ageism and disability discrimination and not about what this president, President Biden, has done,” complained Democratic Rep. Steven Horsford (Nevada), chairman of the Congressional Black Caucus, in an interview with CNN, days before the 81-year-old Biden dropped out of the race and endorsed Kamala Harris.

We are happy to report that there are at least some political elites around the world who reject the Democratic Party’s callous and discriminatory approach to governance. Earlier this month, the president of Bangladesh appointed 84-year-old Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus to head an interim government after deadly protests led to the resignation of dictator Sheikh Hasina, sometimes referred to as the “Hillary Clinton of Bangladesh.”

Yunus, who was sworn in last week, faces a much tougher task than Biden. A few weeks after his 84th birthday, he was tasked with restoring law and order in Bangladesh and cleaning up the “total mess” left by “the monster” Hasina. Biden, on the other hand, was relaxing on a Delaware beach while Harris, who once described his legacy as president as “unmatched in modern history,” prepared to break free from Biden’s policies.

It must be especially frustrating for Yunus to watch the Democratic Party machinations and condemn a man three years his junior as “too old” to run for re-election. Yunus won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his pioneering work in microfinance and lifting millions out of poverty. Three years later, he watched Barack Obama win the Nobel Peace Prize for winning the election, apologizing to Muslims, and making American liberals feel good.
