Luke Lachey on the John Mackey Award watch list

Tight End University is fit and ready with its next top talent for this position.

Luke Lachey is back from a lower leg injury and will start the 2024 college football season fully healthy as the top pass catcher for the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Lachey, also a candidate for Comeback Player of the Year along with quarterback Cade McNamara, was named to the John Mackey Award nomination list before the season.

The award is given annually to the most outstanding tight end in FBS college football.

The John Mackey Award recognizes outstanding achievement without prejudice or discrimination. The award is dedicated to the life of John Mackey himself and is designed to encourage true passion and dedication while increasing health awareness of football in schools, particularly colleges and among youth in general. – John Mackey Prize

Luke Lachey, a native of Columbus, Ohio and graduate of Grandview High School, is back for his fifth season with the Hawkeyes. After his 2023 season was shortened to three games due to a leg injury, he returned to Iowa instead of declaring for the NFL Draft.

Lachey has performed brilliantly during his time on the field and has really come into his own during the 2022 season, playing alongside Sam LaPorta and stepping in when LaPorta was sidelined for a period due to injury.

Lachey has appeared in 30 games, starting 13 times, and has caught 46 passes for 662 yards and four touchdowns in his career.
