Voting by mail has begun for the September 24 vote on the City of Tuscaloosa ad valorem tax.

Residents of the Tuscaloosa City School District will vote on whether or not to increase their property taxes by 11.5 percent. This funding increase would benefit TCS and could generate $17.25 million per year for the school system.

For a home valued at $200,000, the annual property tax increase would be $230.

If you’d like to learn more about what the increase will fund, Tuscaloosa City Schools has an overview for you here.

In-person voting is available Monday through Friday at the Tuscaloosa City Council office.

Tuscaloosa City Clerk Brandy Johnson said this is a vote you can’t miss, so if you aren’t registered to vote yet, you should do so as soon as possible.

“So this is the referendum election on the Tuscaloosa City Schools Ad-Value Tax. The mail-in voting started today at 8 a.m. It ends every day Monday through Friday at 4:30 p.m. in the City Clerk’s office, which is my office here at City Hall,” Johnson said.
